Most tent manufacturers have a catalog. You pick a model, you place an order, you get what they make. That works fine when a standard product fits your needs. But when it does not — when you need a specific size that nobody stocks, or a tent that meets a particular national standard, or shelters branded with your organization's identity — you need a manufacturer who can build to your specifications.
That is what BNC does. We have been manufacturing custom tents from our factory in Karachi since 1994. We have built tents for UN agencies who needed UNHCR specification shelters with custom modifications. We have built tents for militaries that needed specific camouflage patterns, blackout lining, or NBC (nuclear/biological/chemical) filtration ports. We have built tents for commercial safari operators who wanted a particular canvas color to match their lodge aesthetic.
Custom does not mean expensive. It does not mean slow. It means we take your requirements and engineer a tent that fits them exactly, then manufacture it at scale in our own factory. Because we control the entire production process — from canvas treatment to metal fabrication to sewing to packing — we can make changes without the delays that come from coordinating between multiple suppliers.
The real question is not whether we can customize. We can customize almost anything. The question is: what exactly do you need? Once we understand that, we can tell you how to get there.
Nearly every aspect of a tent can be modified. Here is what clients most commonly ask us to change.
Any size from a single-person shelter to a 200+ person warehouse tent. Non-standard heights, widths, and lengths are no problem. We create new cutting patterns for each custom dimension and keep them on file for repeat orders.
Cotton canvas from 280 to 450 GSM. Polyester, ripstop nylon, PVC-coated fabrics, PE tarpaulin. Specialty materials sourced on request. The right choice depends on your climate, use case, and budget. We will advise.
Standard white, olive drab, khaki, desert tan — or any custom color you specify. We can print, stencil, or embroider your logo, organization name, and markings. Common for UN agencies, NGOs, and military units.
We manufacture to UNHCR, ICRC, IFRC, NATO, and many national military and civil defense specifications. Send us your spec document and we will confirm compliance. We have matched standards from over 30 countries.
Galvanized steel, aluminum, or fiberglass poles. Ridge pole, A-frame, center pole, tunnel, or dome configurations. We fabricate frames in-house, so custom pole lengths, joint types, and connector styles are all possible.
Inner liners, ground sheets, stove jacks, window panels, mosquito netting, partition walls, custom door configurations, snow flaps. Whatever the use case demands, we can include it in the design.
Our manufacturing facility in Karachi covers over 50,000 square feet of production space. If you walked the floor, here is what you would see.
The first area is the canvas treatment section. Raw cotton canvas arrives in large rolls from textile mills. Before anything gets cut, the fabric goes through our treatment process — waterproofing, rot resistance, fungus resistance, and UV protection are applied in a controlled environment. We do this in-house because outsourcing treatment means losing control over consistency. A batch that is under-treated will leak in the field. A batch that is over-treated gets stiff and hard to sew. Getting it right requires calibrated equipment and experienced operators.
Next to treatment sits the cutting area. Industrial cutting tables run the length of the room. Canvas is laid out in multiple layers, and cutting is done to patterns specific to each tent model. For custom orders, our pattern makers create new templates based on your specifications. These patterns are kept on file, so repeat orders go straight to cutting without re-engineering.
The sewing lines are the heart of the factory. Rows of heavy-duty industrial sewing machines — not the kind you would find in a garment factory, but machines built for thick, treated canvas. Operators stitch panels together following a specific sequence for each tent model. Seams get double-stitched for strength, then sealed with waterproof tape. A tent is only as waterproof as its weakest seam, so this step gets its own quality checkpoint.
In a separate area, the metalwork section handles frame fabrication. Steel tubes are cut to length, bent to shape (for A-frame or tunnel configurations), and galvanized for corrosion resistance. Pegs, tensioners, and connectors are produced or sourced here as well. For custom orders, we fabricate frames to your specifications — custom lengths, wall thicknesses, and joint types.
Quality control runs throughout the process, not just at the end. Canvas is tested after treatment. Seams are tested during sewing. Finished tents are inspected for dimensions, stitching quality, waterproofing, and component completeness. We test production batches, not just samples. If a tent does not meet spec, it does not ship.
Finally, packing. Tents are folded, bagged, and packed into labeled bales sized for standard cargo pallets. The packing dimensions matter — especially for air freight, where every centimeter of pallet space counts. We have shipped custom tents to over 50 countries and know the logistics requirements for major ports and airports.
Send us your requirements — a specification document, a sketch, a reference photo, or just a description. If you are not sure about technical details, that is fine. We will ask the right questions and help you define the spec.
Within 24-48 hours, you get a detailed quote covering materials, dimensions, accessories, timeline, and pricing. If we think a different material or design would serve you better, we will say so. We are not order-takers — we are tent engineers.
For new designs, we produce a sample tent for your review. You inspect it, test it, suggest modifications if needed. We do not start full production until you sign off on the sample. Changes at this stage cost almost nothing. Changes during production cost time and money.
Once approved, we schedule your order on our production lines. Standard custom orders take 2-4 weeks. We send progress updates and photos during production so you know exactly where things stand.
Every tent is inspected before packing. We check dimensions, stitching, waterproofing, components, and branding. Third-party inspection can be arranged if required by your procurement process. We welcome it — we have nothing to hide on the factory floor.
Packed and palletized for your shipping method — sea freight, air freight, or overland. Our location near Karachi's international airport and seaport gives us access to direct routes to most destinations. We can handle logistics or ship ex-works.
Our custom manufacturing clients fall into a few main categories, each with different needs.
Humanitarian organizations order relief tents and refugee shelters with custom modifications — specific branding, additional winterization features, or compliance with particular field requirements that go beyond standard UNHCR specs. UN agencies, Red Cross societies, and NGOs make up a large portion of our custom order volume.
Military and defense organizations order military tents to their own national specifications. These often include requirements for specific camouflage patterns, blackout inner liners, chemical/biological protection features, or unusual size configurations for command posts, field hospitals, or equipment storage.
Commercial clients order canvas tents for safari camps, glamping resorts, outdoor events, and commercial storage. These orders typically focus on aesthetics as much as function — custom colors, window configurations, interior partitioning, and premium finishing details.
Government agencies order tents for civil defense, disaster preparedness stockpiles, and national emergency response programs. These often need to meet specific national standards that differ from international humanitarian specifications.
Regardless of the category, the process is the same: you tell us what you need, we figure out how to build it, and we manufacture it in our factory. No outsourcing, no subcontracting.
Send us your specifications, a sketch, or even just a description of what you need. We will turn it into a detailed quote with material recommendations, timeline, and factory-direct pricing. No obligation.
